Lying on the most traditional coffee region of El Salvador, Kilimanjaro farm is located on the highlands of the Santa Ana Volcano or Ilamatepec, only 40 minutes away from the city of Santa Ana. This farm was bought in 1983 by Mauricio Batlle Mena, third generation of a hardworking coffee family, who has established Everest, S.A. Nowadays, his daughter, Aida Batlle takes care of this marvelous coffee plantation which is nearly 40 years old.

When she decided to participate in the Cup of Excellence® program, she started by creating awareness among everyone involved in the farm regarding the importance of following the recommendations given by the local organization to their diligent workers. As a rewarding scheme and despite the coffee crisis, Aida and her father decided coffee pickers a wage 50% higher than the rate established by law.

Completely identified with quality search, Aida Batlle traveled every day to the farm to verify the accomplishment of all the necessary conditions to obtain an excellent coffee harvest. She supervised every bag of coffee cherries that went to the mill, looking for only perfectly mature beans on them and encouraging pickers to meticulously sort coffee.

Aida Batlle holds the personal satisfaction of being the first female coffee grower who has won the first place in a Cup of Excellence® event, a merit well-deserved and applauded by the local organizer committee.

The participating lot was picked during a three day period in the month of January was immediately sent every day to the San Miguel mill of COEX in Ahuachapán, where it was processed accordingly to the highest standards of quality. San Miguel mill expertise is supported by COEX’s 28 years of experience.
